Our Opinion: Very Interesting

The WWF Oasis at Alviano is 15 km from Agritourism Il Poggio del Bolognino, Lugnano in Teverina.

This is a WWF protected Naturalistic Oasis on the Tiber and part of The Regional Park of Umbria. If you wish to spend a full day at the Oasis you could enjoy a picnic in the area provided.

If you love bird watching we suggest you use the binocular rental service. There is then a choice of two paths to follow:

• The circular trail, equipped with small hides and turret for bird watching (length: 1500 meters)
• The linear trail runs along the Tiber, and is particularly suited for enthusiasts and nature photographers (length: 2500 m.)

Do not make the mistake of leaving your camera behind. At Alviano Oasis it is easy to catch sight of : wild ducks, cranes, wild geese, fish hawks, teals, shovellers, widgeons, cormorants, grebes, herons, bitterns, marsh harriers, osprey, chats, and thrushes.

The flora is also very interesting and includes: common alders, poplars, and willows by now “old” thirty year-old trees, as well as many widespread ivies. Among the mammals you may be lucky enough to photograph coypu, badger, porcupine, fox, wild boar, and the European squirrel. .

The Oasis has every type of environment characteristic of damp/humid freshwater areas: swamps, bogs, marshland, pools, water-meadows, hydric woods, among the most extensive in the Central Apennines. .

The Alviano Oasis is open from 1 September to 15 May, on Sundays and Public Holidays,

from 10:00 am until sunset.

Closed on 25 and 26 December and on 1 and 6 January.
